"A Great Vacation Getaway...."
On the advice of Frommer's, we decided to stay at El Prado. We were not disappointed. The great thing about this place is that it doesn't feel like a hotel. There is an air of hominess about it that is rarely found in a standard hotel. The swimming pool, though only average in size, is surrounded by a banyan tree and loads of flowers. You feel like you're at a friend's house. The staff is warm and unobtrusive. It is in a neighborhood that is upscale. Our rooms consisted of a bedroom, bathroom, and separate kitchen. For $129 a night in the dead of winter, for nearly $400 a night we could have stayed in a boxy room at the Marriot which was only two blocks away. In fact, the un-Marriotness of this place was it's greatest feature. It was warm and unique, not coldly predictable. It is only a couple minutes' walk from the beach. The Condado area is beautiful, and it's nice to stay slightly away from the hectic flow of the main drag. If we come back to San Juan, and we'd love to, we know exactly where we'd stay.

"An undiscovered Oasis"
An undiscovered oasis, this Mediterranean-style inn lays only a 3-minute walk from the beach. Some guests don't bother, preferring to linger around the inviting Spanish-style patio and pool for most of the day. El Prado is also within an easy walk of major hotels, with their dining and entertainment possibilities, casinos, and dozens of restaurants. Each of the midsize bedrooms is well furnished and has a nearly tiled tub-and-shower bathroom. Some of the accommodations are large enough to house four comfortably.

"I was very shocked!"
Me and my roommate wanted to take a vacation, at the lowest expense possible. When I booked this hotel I was unsure of what to expect since the price was so low. When we arrived I must say that we were very shocked because we expected the total opposite. The hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood, and everything (shops, casino, beach) is in walking distance. The rooms are very nice, and clean (we even came prepared with our own sheets, but didn't have to use them.) Staying here really made our trip enjoyable, because we got to stay in a very cute place, and it was inexpensive.

"I recommend El Prado"
I went back to Puerto Rico one week later and, once again, I stayed at El Prado. Again, the staff was very cordial and helpful. I recommend El Prado to anyone who plans on visiting Puerto Rico or staying in San Juan.

"A pleasant place to stay"
My son & I stayed at El Prado over a four day visit to Puerto Rico in February, 2002. There are two very important, salient reasons for staying at El Prado that will bring me back again. First, the location. El Prado is across the street from a police station. Secondly, the hotel is next to a very nice park/plaza where people meet during the day and evenings. Parents bring their children there to play; teenagers come there to meet, grandparents get together with other families and brag about their grandchildren. The rooms we had were spacious enough, cool and well kept. To be sure, this is not a fancy chain hotel. It's in a building that has old-fashioned double-panel doors common throughout Latin America. Large windows let in the sun and air. El Prado is a good hotel run by cooperative, friendly, bilingual people. It's in a great location, near shops and stores and restaurants and if you want to just sit and read, the park is a perfect place. I was so impressed and pleased with my stay last time that my wife and youngest son are going to visit Puerto Rico in March. We'll be staying at El Prado for the San Juan parts of our trip.

"I always stay at..."

sweet Willie! I just got back from SJU on Sunday. I always stay at: EL Prado Inn ..on the park

Ask for room 120..it is the only good secluded room with private balcony. The Inn is under new management..much better..cable TV..Aircon..and phone and safe and a small pool..I have tried all the hotels in the area and this one is quite peaceful. There is a park about 50 meters away and it is close to everything. Enjoy..but call ASAP as they can get quite full (22 rooms).
